The story of our adventure in Spain
This blog hopefully will contain our thoughts and impressions of Spain - the good and the bad and lots and lots of photographs of not only Guardamar but the rest of Spain as we eventually get to explore it.

Spanish Debt
Public debt in Spain for June reached a record high - 942.8bn euros equal to 92.2% of the country's entire economic output.
Worrying times - any further austerity measures are likely to make the high unemployment rates even worse. Unemployment now stands at 26% of the population.
The government of Mariano Rajoy is aiming to reduce public spending between 2012 and 2014 by 150bn euros.
The only good news is that Spanish banks are now borrowing less from the European Central Bank.

New pathway at Guardamar
It has been announced that there is to be a new beach pathway in the Moncayo area - see the Leader
This will stretch from Els Vivers to playa Babilonia - now this is what I find confusing !! Moncayo is not near Els Vivers and Babilonia. These are two separate area in the town the later being near the port from what I can remember.
So I guess we should just wait and see what happens
Water tanks and pumping systems in the area will be removed from public view in order to make the area more attractive.

Guardamar - Parking charges
Guardamar has joined the group of towns who now charge for parking - 850 parking spaces have been created near to the beaches and payment has been required since July 7th.
A new idea for this part of Spain but in the UK you will find very few towns that do not charge for parking. Car parking charges have been a way of life for many years and add a considerable amount to town hall coffers.
No doubt there will be a lot of complaints and arguing !!!!

Confederations Cup
Spain ended an unbeaten run of 29 competitive matches to be trounced by Brazil 3-0 in the FIFA Confederations Cup at the Maracana.
Goals from Fred 2 and Neymar 1 ended the hopes of the Spanish team.
To add insult to injury Sergio Ramos missed a penalty and Gerard Pique was shown a red card.
What of the Spanish team in the World Cup ? Watch this space...

Guardamar Hill
We now have some apartment blocks occupied on the Guardamar Hill site.
Photos taken on a rather dull day - rain was expected.

Guardamar Hill
This little park up at Guardamar Hill has grown quite lush in the few years since it was planted but now needs a bit of tender love and care and the weeds removing.

Guardamar - The Pines
We've not walked around this area for some time and there is evidence that at some stage there has been a fire but I can find no one who can confirm this.
Still looks very pretty.
