The story of our adventure in Spain

In October 2002 we purchased a holiday flat in Guardamar on Spain's Costa Blanca - not far from Alicante and Torrevieja and we try to spend a good part of the year in Spain.

This blog hopefully will contain our thoughts and impressions of Spain - the good and the bad and lots and lots of photographs of not only Guardamar but the rest of Spain as we eventually get to explore it.

The Rouble and Spain

The sudden fall of the value of the Russian Rouble must have some affect on the Spanish economy especially in the tourist trade and construction industry.

During the last few years Russians have been persuaded by the tourist industry not only to visit Spain but to purchase property. It was hoped they would replace the British/German/Dutch and Norwegians who were no longer buying property.

Those Russians who have bought property will be in a good position financially but new comers will find property prices very expensive due to Russia's currency problems. Will this lead to further falls in the value of properties ?

Where will the construction industry turn to now ? I would imagine that the Chinese or Indian buyers will only be interested in the major cities and not the coastal tourist areas.

Watch developments with interest.

Champions League

Three Spanish football teams have made it to the last 16 playoffs of the Championship League this season.

Real Madrid will meet Schalke and Atletico Madrid will meet Bayer Leverkusen.

There will be a repeat of last season's competition when Barcelona play Manchester City. Their last meetings resulted in a 4-1 aggregate win for Barcelona.

Matches to be played in the New Year.

Good luck !!

The king who has been in poor health recently stated that " A new generation must be at the forefront .. younger people with new energies ".

Hope to post a few photos over the next few days

Spanish TV

May 6th is big day for Spanish TV - 9 channels will be withdrawn because the broadcasters have had their DTT licences withdrawn.

It would appear that the courts have ruled that these licences should have been put out for general tender but were not and therefore the current licence is withdrawn.

Included in the list of channels is Nitro and LaSexta3. This is a great pity as these channels showed films in the original language which is usually English.

Possibly in the future a further 8 channels are rumoured to be withdrawn. No doubt some other companies will apply for licences and perhaps we'll see more channels again.
