The story of our adventure in Spain

In October 2002 we purchased a holiday flat in Guardamar on Spain's Costa Blanca - not far from Alicante and Torrevieja and we try to spend a good part of the year in Spain.

This blog hopefully will contain our thoughts and impressions of Spain - the good and the bad and lots and lots of photographs of not only Guardamar but the rest of Spain as we eventually get to explore it.

Rojales -San Pedro Apostol

The church of San Pedro Apostol peeping out above the roof tops of Rojales.

I guess similar to any other church in this region in design and build.

Rojales

Rojales town centre with fancy lamps and small museum - a museum I've yet to visit so I've no idea what awaits the casual visitor.

Hércules

The first game of La Liga 2010/2011 has been played and the local Alicante team Hércules newly promoted have lost their first game of the season.

The went down to Athletic Bilbao by one goal - scored by Llorente in the 47th minute.

Let's not hope that this is not a bad omen for the rest of the season.

Down by the river -this old building complete with advertising ..

Any old building will do to paste your poster.

Back to Rojales ..

Back to Rojales for another photo taken earlier this year.

I'm now in the situation that until I return to Spain I'm starting to run out of photographs - it's a case of trawling through the Mac and looking for something suitable.

The artistic problems we Bloggers have !!

Hércules

La Liga starts next Saturday 28th August and the first game of the 2010/11 season kicks off at the Estadia José Rico Pérez stadium in Alicante.

This is where newly promoted Hércules are based - they will meet Athletico Bilbao and this game will be a tough one for them.

Nicknamed the Herculanos or Blanquiazules the club managed by Estaban Vigo was founded in 1922.

As a local team to the area we wish them all the best ..

Spanish Proverb

Al César lo que es del César y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

To Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.

My book of Spanish Proverbs states that the literal translation of this means give credit where credit is due but I would dispute this - the religious meaning is quite plain to see as far as I am concerned.

Santa Pola - Grasses ..

Springtime in Santa Pola and these rather attractive grasses were growing in the nature reserve not far from the beach area.

No doubt that in the summer sun these will now have wilted and the seed dispersed ready for another year.

No just me messing around with the picture - it would make a pleasant postcard though.

Outside work ..

When the ladder is too short get yourself a crane - it's the only way when that special outside job needs doing.

Buy me ....

I guess this sign is very international ...

Torrevieja

Part of the Torrevieja " tart up " of the shopping centre - streets have been smartened up and new lighting installed.

All in the hope of attracting the tourist and their hard earned dosh.

For those not familiar with English slang - dosh is money !!

Santa Pola - Mystery ..

This place has always been a bit of a mystery to me - on the N332 road as you approach Santa Pola.

Well it looks like a church but I've never seen anyone entering the place and it is in a most unlikely area for one.

Perhaps a convent or a retreat .. ??

Quesada - On the hill .

These villas are perched on the hill overlooking the golf course .

Just like miniature castles ...

I'm not sure I'd want my home so near to an edge like that !!

La Marquesa Golf

Golf is very popular on the Costa Blanca - this is La Marquesa Golf at Quesada.

For those interested it is 18 hole, par 72 and 5799m. No doubt that will mean something to someone.

I think that the Golf House is somewhere in this complex of shops and restaurants.

It all looks very impressive - for more info just Google ...
