Springtime in Santa Pola and these rather attractive grasses were growing in the nature reserve not far from the beach area.

No doubt that in the summer sun these will now have wilted and the seed dispersed ready for another year.

Santa Pola - Mystery ..

This place has always been a bit of a mystery to me - on the N332 road as you approach Santa Pola.

Well it looks like a church but I've never seen anyone entering the place and it is in a most unlikely area for one.

Perhaps a convent or a retreat .. ??

A rather modern fountain in the centre of Santa Pola - in the main square opposite the castle.

This castle or fort looks as though it could be on the North African coast somewhere in the desert.

In fact it's in the centre of Santa Pola - not much of a castle compared to Alicante or the Tower of London but it does have a couple of museums that are well worth a visit - they show the lives of the "common" people - as they were in days of old ...

Ruin

This place stands in ruin not far from the N332 near to Santa Pola - the area is now a nature reserve - perhaps once a farm building but now surplus to requirements ??

This relic was once a boat used in the salt trade - you'll find it on the coastal nature reserve at Santa Pola.

Santa Pola - Salt Salt Salt !!!

Santa Pola not far from Alicante is famous for the production of salt - this is sea salt obtained from the lagoons that surround the town.

Most of this salt will end up on the frozen roads of northern Europe ..
